Abstract

In recent years, the confluence of different areas of research has shown that difficulties in emotion regulation (ER) play a central role in the development and maintenance of psychopathology. The use of non-adaptive strategies to regulate emotions is related to a wide spectrum of mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders or addictions. Thus, ER has become an important transdiagnostic construct, constituting a common dimension of a wide variety of disorders and an important target of psychotherapeutic techniques for different mental health problems, including addictions.
