EVIDENCE FOR THE UNIVERSAL, SELECTIVE AND INDICATED PREVENTION OF THE CONSUMPTION OF ILLICIT SUBSTANCES IN COLOMBIA

In Colombia there would be about half a million people with abuse or dependence on illicit drugs, so it is a priority to develop preventive interventions based on evidence. Universal, selective and indicated prevention requires the analysis of factors associated with consumption in the general population and among drug users. Objectives. Establish factors that are associated with the consumption of illegal substances in the general population and latent classes among drug users. Method. Cross-sectional study with 32,605 between 12 and 65 years, with regression, factorial and latent class analysis. Results. Having consumer friends and previous experience with psychoactive substances are the factors most associated with the use of illegal substances in the last year. Three latent classes of illicit drug users were identified, which vary with respect to current consumption and the experience of consumption of illicit substances. Conclusions. Factors with potential utility for the prevention of the consumption of illicit substances were identified. The analysis of the latent classes of consumers, allows to specify the factors to be considered in the indicated prevention.
