Positive and negative parenting associated with severe problems of child behavior

Introduction. Some kind of raising practices are associated to severe child behavioral problems. Objective. To assess the relationship between raising practices and different severe child behavioral problems. Results. Throughout a multi-variability analysis and structured equation model we obtained a data adjustment with an X2 (1711) = 10190,41; p = 0.000, a CFI = 0,89, a RMSEA = 0,044 and a SRMR = 0,075. The 56% of parents reported severe child behavioral problems. The children aggressive behavior looks to play a role on the negative (physical punishment or inconsistent discipline) and positive (positive social interaction and involvement) practices association with severe behavioral problems. The children opposition and parental positive involvement predicted aggression, physical punishment predicted opposition inconsistent discipline predicted attention disorder and punishment, physical punishment and inconsistent discipline predicted hyperactivity disorder. Conclusion. Raising practices predict severe problem behaviors when children aggression exists; aggression is moderated when parents positively involve with them; and opposition, inattention and hyperactivity grow with negative practices such as corporal punishment and inconsistent discipline.Downloads
