Family functionality and alcohol use among high school teenagers

The problem of alcohol consumption is considered multifactorial where micro enviromental factors like family, contribute in the onset and maintenance of this behavior. This study is descriptive correlational with the objective to identify the relationship and effect of family functionality with alcohol use in High School teenagers in a 362 teenagers sample with a random stratified sampling with proportional allocation to the stratum size. Results show a negative and significant relationship between family functioning and alcohol dependent use (rs=204, p=.021). The variables with effect on the consumption of alcohol among adolescents are the occupation, age at onset of alcohol use and family functionality with 13.8% of explained variance. It is concluded that family functionality is important as affect significantly teenagers behavior, so professional nursing is a key element for the development and implementation of focused interventions to the family in order to give family strategies that impact on the holistic well-being.Downloads
