Gambling is a frequent social behavior in our culture that has barely been studied in young people even though adult data show important prevalence of gambling. Therefore, the objective of this research was to know the prevalence of pathological gambling in a sample of university students of first year, as well as to know the profile of these players and their pattern of substance use. In order to carry out the work, a sample of 246 first-year students from the University of Córdoba, aged between 18 and 25, was used. Through a descriptive ex-post-facto descriptive cross-sectional single-group design, participants were assessed through the South Oaks Pathological Gambling Questionnaire (SOGS) and a questionnaire for the evaluation of substance use and other sociodemographic variables. The results show that 1.6% of young people are pathological gamblers as well as 5.3% present minor gambling problems. Likewise, a relationship has been found between pathological gambling and the consumption of some substances such as alcohol and cannabis. These data suggest the need to intervene in a preventive and clinical way with the group of university students.Downloads
