Tobacco and alcohol consumption among adolescents of urban areas in Nuevo León, México

The consumption of snuff and alcohol is a growing public health problem because of the many consequences that result in the person, family, group and community, as well as being the psychoactive substances most commonly used by the general population. The objective of the study was to describe the consumption of snuff and alcohol in 735 urban adolescents of Nuevo Leon through a descriptive cross-sectional study. For data collection, was used a charter of personal data and consumption of snuff and alcohol, as well as Disorders Identification Test due to alcohol consumption. The capture and analysis of the data was carried out in the Statical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21 through descriptive statistics program. It was identified that of 735 adolescents 15% are experimental smokers, 11.2 was former smokers and 3.9 are users of snuff. With regard to alcohol consumption the 47% presented a sensible drinking, harmful consumption 30.7% and 22.3% dependent on consumption. The results show that the consumption of snuff and alcohol by teenagers is a priority health problem that requires the design and implementation of prevention programs to help reduce the consumption of these drugs.
