Abstract

The Smartphone has become an object indispensable for
the day to day. Its use generates in people different
sensations related with the independence, the social
status, safety, control and leisure. However, not all are
advantages; excess use of the Smartphone has raised
fear for its possible addictive nature.
Behavioral addictions, except for gambling, are not
recognized in the DSM-V. This article thoroughly analyzes
the existing validated scales that measure the
Mobile/Smartphone use, its theoretical foundations, their
study factors and psychometric, consistency, and validity
properties.
After the analysis, there is a clear lack of theoretical basis,
which supports this kind of behavioral disorder, there is
no consensus on its inclusion within a given taxonomy
and each instrument uses from diagnostic criteria for
disorders other than the DSM-V, hindering even more the
comparison between the scales.
Future studies should be designed to establish diagnostic
criteria inherent to the problematic use and collect
symptoms related to loss of control, tolerance and
withdrawal caused by their use.
