MEANING OF SEXUAL RISK AWARENESS IN MEXICAN YOUTH: QUALITATIVE APPROACH

Situational awareness has a direct impact on young people’s decision-making to prevent sexual risk and at this stage of life sexual and reproductive health is of particular interest Objective: Identify the meaning of sexual risk awareÂness in Young people. Methodology: Qualitative study; grounded theory with descriptive component. The sample was 10 young people with different occupations. Purposive sampling was used. Information was collected through semi-structured interviews and audio recordings. Results: The meaning of sexual risk awareness is understood as a complex process in which risk situations are perceived initially in the environment, then must be comprehended in the mind in order to prevent situations that cause sexual risk in young people. Conclusions: The identification of the concept of sexual risk awareness in young people shows a solid basis for understanding the cognitive process they follow to become aware of sexual risk and thus implement actions that will help them make better decisions in the future.
